I read a Facebook post today from a co-worker that read:
"I've been inspired to do this: Halloween my Facebooking will be over. I'm quitting Facebook. I was inspired by John Engates to do it. I wonder what Robert Scoble would have to say about this. If you want to see what we're up to in the @&)%& household follow @(*%&)*@.blogspot.com I'm sure it won't be updated as often but you can always hit me up via email or phone."
It's not a bad idea huh? I kind of like the concept, but let's think about the logistics of how this works. In today's digital universe, so many phone apps and websites "login with Facebook". Could we actually delete our Facebook and still function as connected members of society?
Facebook started as a cool site that we could share what we're doing with our closest friends. It's turned into a behemoth monster of stupid game requests, bitching, re-posts, ill conceived opinions, puppy/kitty videos, and baby pictures. I actually spend more time on Instagram and Twitter than on Facebook these days, but nearly everything I post to either site ends up on Facebook. Fact of the matter is, I WANT people to read MY updates, I think I post cool updates and important stuff. And I WANT to read their updates, I just don't want their drama.
So, for the time being, I'm going to keep my Facebook. But, I created this blog where I could blog more often, get my ideas out on paper, and if anybody cares to read and see what I'm up to these days, feel free to invade my personal space with your positive influences. Over time, I'll be able to look back over the days/months/years and read my history like a book.... just not a FACEbook.
